Big Guy Big World Explores Peru: A Journey Through Incan History

Peru, a country rich in history, beautiful landscapes, and rich culture. It is home to one of the world’s greatest wonders—Machu Picchu. This ancient Incan city, perched high in the Andes Mountains, has long captivated travelers, historians, and adventurers alike. For me, this journey was all about stepping into the past, exploring Cusco, and meeting soma furry friends—Peru’s famous llamas and alpacas!

Arriving in Cusco: The Heart of the Incan Empire

The adventure began in Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire and the gateway to Machu Picchu. At over 11,000 feet above sea level, Cusco’s altitude was a challenge at first, but nothing a little coca tea couldn’t help with! We wandered through the historic streets of Plaza de Armas, admiring the colonial architecture, and visiting the Qorikancha Temple. This temple was once the most important temple in the Incan Empire—set the stage for an unforgettable journey.

Cusco is a city where the past and present intertwine. Its bustling markets offer a taste of local culture, from traditional textiles to handcrafted souvenirs. And let’s not forget the delicious Peruvian food—from lomo saltado (stir-fried beef) to aji de gallina (creamy chicken stew), every meal was a flavorful experience.

Machu Picchu: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience

The highlight of the trip was, of course, visiting Machu Picchu. Whether by train or trekking the Inca Trail, reaching this ancient city in the clouds was a dream come true. The moment of stepping onto the site and seeing the vast stone ruins surrounded by misty mountain peaks was absolutely surreal.

Machu Picchu, built in the 15th century and later abandoned, remains one of the greatest architectural feats of the Incan civilization. Walking through its stone terraces, temples, and narrow pathways, it was easy to imagine what life might have been like for the Incas who once lived there. The Sun Gate, offering a panoramic view of the ruins, was a breathtaking sight.

Feeding Llamas and Alpacas: Making New Furry Friends

No trip to Peru would be complete without spending time with its most famous residents—llamas and alpacas! These fluffy creatures are found throughout the Andes and are an essential part of Andean culture. Visiting a local farm, Big Guy Big World had the chance to feed llamas and alpacas, learn about their importance in textile production, and, of course, snap some hilarious selfies with them!

A Magical Experience in the Andes

Cusco and Machu Picchu weren’t just stops on the map—they were an immersion into history, culture, and natural beauty. From exploring the cobblestone streets of Cusco to standing atop the ruins of Machu Picchu, every moment was unforgettable. And let’s be honest—feeding llamas was the cherry on top!

Peru is truly a country that captures the soul of adventure. With its deep-rooted history, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality, it’s a must-visit destination for any traveler. Where will Big Guy Big World go next? Stay tuned for more adventures!
