Breathtaking Flight over Cancun
Welcome back to my travel blog. We are now in Cancun, Mexico. In the first few days here, we have seen a lot of cool things. I used to come here a lot when I was younger, but I haven’t been here for fifteen years. Most people don’t realize how beautiful it is here in this part of Mexico. The beaches are gorgeous with vibrant, blue water and powdery, white sand. This is the perfect tropical getaway. The highlight of our trip had to be the flight over Cancun and the Caribbean coast.
Flight Over the Caribbean
While in Cancun, we rented a prop plane and flew over the Caribbean ocean, and to an island called Holbox. The island was about forty miles away from Cancun. To be honest, the flight was a little scary because the plane was super small. Also, the ride was sort of bumpy, probably because of the size of the plane. However, other than that, this experience was amazing. After visiting the island of Holbox, we got the opportunity to fly over the city of Tulum in Mexico, where the beaches didn’t look real because they were truly that beautiful. Below are a few pictures of the plane and our incredible view of the Caribbean coast.
Holbox
Holbox is an island north of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. It’s the home to many amazing animals such as flamingos, pelicans, sea turtles, and whale sharks. This island has a cool main village, as well as the beautiful Punta Coco Beach. This island is absolutely beautiful and amazing. It sits outside of Cancun and takes hours to get there by ferry. We took a plane, which was one of the coolest experiences. I would recommend this excursion, as long as you are comfortable with heights.
We weren’t even planning on going to that island, but the guy told us he would give us a discount if we stayed there for a little bit while he picked up another group. While on the island, we noticed that all the taxis were golf carts, which was interesting. As you can see in the pictures below, the golf carts are painted to look like retro buses. The whole island was packed with people, we couldn’t even tell that we were in a global pandemic. The views on the way in and out of the island were unforgettable.
Should You Go?
I would recommend Cancun. This was such a beautiful place with so much to offer. The highlight of our stay was the plane ride over the islands. The view from that height was breathtaking. The only thing I was not too fond of was that we got pulled over several times by the police. They usually like to be paid off and fortunately, I knew how to handle the situation. There were not a lot of strict COVID policies. We just wore our masks the whole time, which we are used to doing anyway. As far as COVID policies go, nothing caught us off guard or anything. Mexico gets a bad rap, but it truly does have a lot to offer.
Thanks for joining me on this wild ride of traveling the world through a global pandemic. In these last few months, I have made so many unforgettable memories. I am so grateful for this platform because writing my experiences down for you allows me to relive them all over again. If you would like to read more about my previous adventures, you can catch up here.
