There’s something truly magical about Colombia. From its vibrant cities to its breathtaking natural wonders, this country has a unique charm that’s impossible to match. My recent trip to Colombia was filled with unforgettable experiences, colorful culture, and plenty of moments that made me feel like “El Jefe Grande” (The Big Boss). Colombia is one of my favorite places, I come here every chance I get.
Starting in Cartagena: A City of History and Adventure
Our Colombian adventure started in Cartagena, a city that feels like stepping into a vibrant postcard. With its colorful streets, stunning colonial architecture, and lively atmosphere, Cartagena instantly wins over your heart. Every corner is a picture-perfect moment, and the energy of the city is contagious.
One of the highlights of our time in Cartagena was visiting the famous mud volcano, an experience unlike any other. Submerging ourselves in a natural pool of therapeutic mud was both exciting and soothing—like a spa day, but with a unique Colombian twist. The mud is said to have healing properties, making it not just fun but also good for your skin. It was messy, relaxing, and filled with laughter, creating unforgettable memories. The friendly locals, the scenic surroundings, and the sense of adventure made it a must-try experience that we’ll be talking about for years.

Exploring Guatapé and El Peñón de Guatapé
From Cartagena, our journey took us to Guatapé, a picturesque town nestled just outside Medellín. Known for its charm and colors, Guatapé is a place that feels like it’s been plucked straight from a storybook. But the real showstopper? El Peñón de Guatapé, often called “The Rock.” This towering granite monolith rises dramatically from the landscape, offering one of Colombia’s most breathtaking views.
The climb to the top is no small feat—740 steps wind their way up the side of this natural wonder. Each step was a challenge, but the reward at the summit was unforgettable. From the peak, we were greeted with sweeping panoramic views of vivid turquoise lakes and rolling green hills that seemed to stretch endlessly. It’s a scene that takes your breath away.
The town of Guatapé itself is equally enchanting. Its brightly painted zócalos (decorative panels on building facades) and lively streets are bursting with personality. The warm, welcoming atmosphere makes it a destination you’ll never want to leave. Whether you’re there for the adventure or the charm, Guatapé is a Colombian gem you simply have to experience.

Colombian Rappers and “El Jefe Grande”
One of the most unexpected and entertaining parts of the trip happened in Cartagena, where a group of Colombian rappers started following us around. They sang to us, adding a personal soundtrack to our adventure, and even gave me the nickname “El Jefe Grande” (The Big Boss). Their energy and creativity were infectious, adding a special touch of Colombian flair to our journey.

Why Colombia is Like No Other
Colombia has a style and vibe that’s entirely its own. From the beautiful cities of Cartagena and Medellín to the unique attractions like the mud bath and El Peñón de Guatapé, this country offers experiences like no other. Its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and welcoming people make it one of the most unique places in the world.

Plan Your Colombian Adventure
Whether you’re climbing El Peñón de Guatapé, relaxing in a mud bath, or dancing to the rhythm of street performers, ultimately, Colombia will captivate your heart. It’s a place where adventure meets culture, and every corner holds something new to discover.
