Welcome to Cancun. This amazing place is located in Mexico. During our time in Cancun, we explored the island of Isla Mujeres, which is located right off the coast. This island is the perfect vacation getaway. The sunny skies, crystal blue water, and soft sands make for a tropical paradise. This island has so many excursion opportunities. And, of course, it also has beautiful views to go along with the fun and exciting activities. This is also the location of the famous Ruins of Ixchel Temple, which is a must-see. There are few ways you can get to this island, but we decided to go by boat, which was a super fun experience.

Transportation, Excursions, and Dining

We ended up renting a boat and took it out across the water from Cancun to Isla Mujeres. However, the ferries go back and forth regularly, so you don’t need to rent a boat. The ferry dock is located in Puerto Juarez, which is just a few minutes from downtown Cancun. The ferry boats leave every half hour and run from 5:00 am until 9:30 pm. It’s about a fifteen-minute ride to the island. However, the ride goes by super fast because the water is the most beautiful crystal blue and you can see right to the bottom. Needless to say, we were mesmerized by the views on the ride over. It was so intriguing that we stopped for a moment and some of the people in our group decided to jump off the boat into the refreshing water. We had a great time.

This island has an endless amount of excursion opportunities. If you are a lover of sea animals, they have so many amazing activities for you including swimming with sharks, dolphin and stingray encounters, and turtle nurseries. Isla Mujeres is also known for having an interactive aquarium, where you can put on a wet-suit and diving helmet and get into the water with stingrays, pufferfish, and at least two dozen other species of fish. This was such a unique experience. The Ruins of Ixchel Temple are located on this island. The island served as the sanctuary for the goddess Ixchel, who was the Mayan goddess of the moon, fertility, medicine, and happiness. The Temple was built on the Southside of the island and was also used as the lighthouse. You can see what the remains of the temple look like now in the picture above to the far right.

Should You Go?

I would highly recommend both Cancun and the island of Isla Mujeres to everyone looking for the perfect tropical paradise. There is so much to see and do, that there is no way you could be bored. The excursions are endless, consisting of various exciting outdoor activities. The views are amazing and unforgettable. The photos don’t even do the sunny skies and vibrant, blue waters justice.

We are now onto our next adventure, but we will never forget how amazing Mexico was. The Yucatán Peninsula feels like a largely unknown paradise, and is honestly the adventure of a lifetime. I’ve traveled to a lot of places and seen a lot of things, but this area is so awesome because I was able to check off several experiences on my bucket list. It was awesome to have my family come out for this trip, and I look forward to bringing out more people to the next countries we visit to create memories with.
