Landing in Sydney: Wildlife Encounters and Jet-Setting Adventures
From Time Zones to Travel Goals
When we landed in Sydney, Australia, we had already crossed three different time zones in less than a week. Sleep? Who needs it when you can travel the world like a jet-setting pro?
Our journey had taken us from the US to South Korea, then to Indonesia, and now, finally, to Sydney. The goal? To create a book about traveling through 50 countries on seven continents in 365 days. Living out of a suitcase for a year might not sound glamorous, but the adventure makes it all worth it.
First Stop: Symbio Wildlife Park
After a six-hour flight, we wasted no time. Instead of checking into a hotel for some much-needed rest, we headed straight to Symbio Wildlife Park. This park is home to a variety of animals, most of them native to Australia. But our main mission? To meet a koala and feed some kangaroos.
I’ve always wanted to see a koala up close, and this was my moment. We got to the park a little late, and most of the animals were already winding down for the evening. Who knew wildlife had a bedtime?

Meeting a Koala Up Close
Just when I thought we had missed our chance, I got lucky. One koala was still wide awake and full of energy. It kept reaching out to hug me, like it was auditioning for a feel-good movie. This little guy was incredibly friendly and loved taking pictures.
Koalas are even softer than they look. They’re like living stuffed animals with the best PR skills. Holding one was a surreal experience, and honestly, it made my entire day. Even though I like to call them koala bears, they are actually marsupials.

Feeding Kangaroos: A Unique Experience
Next, we headed to the kangaroo enclosure, where we got to feed them by hand. These animals are fascinating. They stand tall like they’re ready for a boxing match, but in reality, they’re gentle and just want to be your friend.

The best part? Seeing mother kangaroos with their joeys tucked inside their pouches. As I fed one, a tiny baby suddenly popped out and stole food right from my hand. It was like a real-life comedy sketch with surprise kangaroo appearances.

A Must-Visit Spot in Sydney
If you ever visit Sydney, Symbio Wildlife Park should be at the top of your list. It’s an unforgettable experience that lets you get up close with some of Australia’s most iconic animals. And just a heads-up—I’ll be dragging the Big Guy Big World family here when we return to Australia. Because nothing says family bonding like feeding kangaroos and hoping a hungry joey doesn’t mistake your hand for a snack!
