Medellin, Colombia: The Dulce Jesus Mio Restaurant
Hey everyone! Welcome back to my travel blog. We are now in the awesome city of Medellin located in Colombia. Medellin is the second-largest city in Colombia. The city is located in the Aburrá Valley, which is a region of the Andes Mountains in South America. This city has a lot of fun things to see and do. I wanted to write about one of my favorite experiences in Medellin, which was the Dulce Jesus Mio Restaurant. This place was so much fun and well, let’s just say interesting. You will understand why as you start to read more of this blog entry. Keep an open mind, I promise this restaurant was so much fun and an experience I’ll never forget.
Dulce Jesus Mio Restaurant
Okay, this has got to be the most interesting restaurant I have ever been to. This is a real restaurant in Colombia, about a mile and a half from one of Pablo Escobar’s brother’s homes. From the outside, it looks pretty kid-friendly. The restaurant is surrounded by bright, colorful lights and lifesize cartoon characters such as the Pink Panther and Daffy Duck pointing towards the entrance. However, as we got closer to the front door, we could instantly tell that this is not a place to bring children! This restaurant is geared toward adult humor.
Adult Humor
The Dulce Jesus Mio Restaurant is an excellent place if you’re an adult and have a raunchy sense of humor. They had neon, disco lights that covered the ceiling, making the entire restaurant glow with fun colors. Toys were showcased throughout the whole restaurant. Some of the toys showcased on the glass shelves were, I’ll admit, a little spooky. A few of the dolls had creepy faces with burnt hands and hair. Despite the disturbing dolls and barbies, they had some super cool toys that gave us a sense of nostalgia such as Simon, Electric Guitar, Play-Doh, Mr. Potatohead, Hot Wheels, and Earthworms. The bar had colorful lights with bikes hanging from the ceiling. Even the bathrooms in this restaurant were entertaining!
In the men’s bathroom, there were huge statues of Cat Woman and Wonder Woman squatting over the sink, so the idea was that we had to wash our hands in Wonder Woman and Cat Woman’s pee. The urinals were built around the Muppets and the Peanut Gang, such as Miss Piggy. In the women’s bathroom was the famous Tom and Jerry peeing into the sinks replacing the traditional faucets. In both bathrooms were toilets that had a bunch of characters that looked like they drank too much, with the toilet sitting right in front of them. This place was truly one of a kind. I have never seen anything like it before, but like I said this is not a place for kids, no matter how exciting it looks from the outside.
Food & Drinks
They had amazing food and drink options, and it was one of the best meals we’ve had in all of Colombia. The staff was great and they were super attentive to us. While sitting down at our table, there were live characters like Aladdin, pirates, and a guy who was supposed to represent a tattoo from Fantasy Island, walking around. They had a lengthy menu full of delicious food and drinks. We will honestly never forget this experience in Colombia.
Should You Go?
I would highly recommend checking out this restaurant to any group of adults, but it may mess up your childhood memories of your favorite cartoon characters. I honestly enjoyed this experience and truly had a great time. We had so much fun together as a group enjoying the ambiance, great service, delicious food, and humorous atmosphere. We also enjoyed the suites we stayed in.
Overall, this city is full of a fun nightlife atmosphere, and I would highly recommend visiting Medellin if you are ever in Colombia.
