Our Luxury Villa in the Bahamas
Big Guy Big World recently had the opportunity to travel to the Bahamas. Sure, lots of people go to the islands every year. But if you have been around the BGBW world for long, you know we like to do it…well, big. Why just take a trip when you can make it extraordinary?
To start off the recap of our trip, let’s talk about where we stayed.
The Community
The house we stayed in is located in a private gated community called Old Fort Bay. Old Fort Bay’s clubhouse is literally built on the site of a fort constructed by the British in the 18th century as a base to fight off pirates. This is one of the most exclusive luxury communities in the Bahamas and perhaps the world.
The Villa
The villa we rented for the stay is nothing short of remarkable. It is newer construction, done with modern touches, high ceilings and an open feel. The home is baby/kid-friendly and items like cribs and baby gates are available for the asking. (Ask when booking) For the numbers people in the crowd, it is 6,000 square feet which includes 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. But that just begins to tell the story.
Sleeping arrangements
Three bedrooms are located in the upstairs portion. Two of those bedrooms have king-sized beds while the third has a queen-sized bed. You will find Egyptian cotton linens on these beds. All 3 bedrooms have beautiful waterfront views, and their bathrooms are ensuite. That’s an undervalued detail, especially if you are traveling with non-family members. These bedrooms also have walk-in closets.
The first floor has a room that has a double bed and a queen-size sofa bed.
Cooking
There are many great restaurants near the villa, including 5-star restaurants within walking distance. But the home is set up to make any cook feel at home. The chef’s kitchen is indoor/outdoor with high-end appliances and the exterior patio has a full BBQ and dining area. The largest organic grocery store on the island is a 10-minute walk from the house.
Recreation
Aside from the nearby private beach access, there is plenty to do at the villa. There is a well-equipped home gym that has free weights, machines, a stationary bike and apparatus for bodyweight exercises. There are kayaks available to use from right off your own dock. The home boasts a steam room and dry sauna, as well as a pool and spa. The pool and surrounding grounds are beautifully lit so you can enjoy them in the evening as well. The backyard is fenced for privacy and safety.
For less physical entertainment, the villa is equipped with an 82” HDTV and Sonos Surround sound. There are books available, and the house is equipped with high-speed internet.
Working
If your schedule doesn’t allow you to completely disconnect from work, this villa may be a consideration for you. It has 3 home office spaces, supported by high-speed internet. The offices even come with Herman Miller ergonomic chairs so you can work in comfort.
This villa was, in a word, awesome. If you are planning a trip to the Bahamas and would like to stay in this house yourself, it is available through Airbnb. We’re betting you love it as much as we did.
Until next time travelers, be safe, live a full life, be kind and help others. Can’t wait to catch you on our next adventure.
