Incredible Helicopter Ride over the Caribbean

Hey everyone, welcome back. We are still exploring Mexico and all the incredible things it has to offer. Today, we took a helicopter ride above Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, two very beautiful places. The water is some of the most beautiful water I’ve ever seen in all of my travels. While exploring Mexico, we have taken a few different flights above the Caribbean. After we took the first flight, we fell in love with the incredible views we got to experience. We knew at that moment we wanted to take another helicopter ride over the Caribbean. 

Helicopter Ride

We decided to take a helicopter ride over one of the ancient Mayan ruins, which are more than 2600 years old. The Maya city ruins are called Chichén Itzá, and they are located on the Yucatán peninsula. It was used over the years for religious, military, and political purposes. The Mayans were drawn there because of the access to water via caves and sinkholes. The structures have been around since 600 AD, and the temple still stands today. These ruins are one of the seven wonders of the world due to their sophisticated architecture, which has withstood hurricanes, natural disasters, and mankind. It’s an amazing sight to behold, especially from the sky. 

It was about an hour ride in the helicopter to get there. First, we flew over the beautiful beaches of Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum. These are all beautiful cities that I would encourage you to explore on land as well. Then, we flew over the Yucatán peninsula. After an hour of flying, we flew over the exotic jungle. During this portion of the flight, I saw some of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever seen in my life. Trust me, the pictures are beautiful, but they can’t do this place justice. Seeing Chichén Itzá is an incredible experience that I would recommend to everyone, as long as you are comfortable with heights in a tiny helicopter. 

The Experience 

We booked our tickets the day before, and it was a simple process because we used a local airport. The only way to have the doors off and get the best views is on a helicopter, you’re not allowed to have the doors open on a plane. Having the doors off on the helicopter was exhilarating, fun, and a little scary all at the same time. However, we got the best pictures because nothing was obstructing our view. 

The helicopters average about $1200 an hour, and in one hour you can see many things. The planes can be a lot cheaper depending on which one you pick. However, as I said before, you can’t have an open door on a plane. Getting into the helicopter was a little complicated, but mostly because I was overthinking it. Once I got one leg in, I was set. 

Was it Worth it?
